Fiona Tan - Video Instillation
On our media trip to various video art galleries in london we saw many instillations. One of the installations we saw was a piece by Fiona tan. The piece of video art was a small rectangle of thin paper and with the use of thin almost hard to see wires hanging from the ceiling with a projection on it. This projection appeared to be a film of a woman standing still projected on another sheet.. every so often she would shake the sheet so her projection moves. The projection in the gallery was coming from the wall behind the long white sheet so you could see the projection from standing in front of it, but also from the back.
The piece was really interesting to look at as it took most of us to realise that the projection was a film of another projection on what appeared to be a bed sheet. It almost gave the impression that the woman was really standing there when looking at it for a while. The effect of the white bed sheet being shacked is strange. The woman’s whole body the wriggles as if she is as thin as a sheet, like she ia a ghost.
